The objective of this assignment was to extend the definition of a word from a list provided by the instructor. It was also important to include an image and examples to define the word. I selected "sexting." For this word I had to search the internet and found that there was a lot recent articles of "sexting." Most of them included negatively it had effected people.
S.E. Smith defines sexting, also known as dirty texting, “a practice in which people exchange sexually explicit material with each other via cell phone.” Material could include “the sending of photographs, requests for photographs, sexual-themed jokes, requests for sexual encounters and more.” This practice is popular amongst teenagers and adults. While some may view sexting as fun and exciting, for others, it has placed them in a “compromising situation.” It is no longer exciting or legal for a minor to send sexually explicit photographs or jokes to an adult or when photos of a minor end up in the hands of an adult. It can be sent among minors for it to be considered illegal. Once it is made aware to an adult, that is when the ramifications of sexting start. Such is the case in CBS News’ January 2009 article “Sexting Shockingly Common Among Teens.” Three girls ages 13 through 14 sent nude pictures of themselves to two boys ages 16 and 17 and now they are all being charged with child pornography. Figure 1 below is an example of sexing found in a website.
